Hindus concerned over increasing violence against European Roma

International Desk
Hindus have expressed serious concern about reportedly increasing violence and prejudice against Roma people in Europe.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that reported incidents of gruesome attacks, killings, fire bombings, exclusion, racism, etc., against European Roma were very troubling. European Union and governments of various countries of Europe must act urgently to stop this trend and protect Roma communities and their rights, who appeared to be gripped with fear.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that it was moral obligation of Europe to take care of its largest minority Roma population who had been living in apartheid like conditions for many centuries in Europe.

How much longer it would take for them to be accepted as an equal partner in the European society, Zed asked.

Alarming condition of Roma was a social blight for Europe and the rest of the world as they reportedly regularly faced hostility, social exclusion, racism, substandard education, joblessness, rampant illness, inadequate housing, lower life expectancy, unrest, living on desperate margins, language barriers, stereotypes, mistrust, rights violations, discrimination, marginalization, appalling living conditions, prejudice, human rights abuse, racist slogans on Internet, unusually high unemployment rates, etc., Rajan Zed argued.
